giŋa

The name kinga is a word that even most Balanda (non-Aboriginal people) in Kakadu and Western Arnhem Land already know. If you put the English definite article in front the word as in "the kinga" then it means the Kakadu Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru, the hotel built in the shape of a crocodile.

There is a synonym— namanjwarre. If you are talking to, or in earshot of, a taboo relative such as a mother-in-law or her brothers (i.e. your ngal-kurrng or na-kurrng in Kunwinjku), then you have to use the special avoidance register language name for crocodile which is ngandjakdjalarrk.
